Meet the artist
The artist behind The Cheshire Kitten is Danielle Verstegen. She creates her artwork in her home studio in Tilburg, a town in the Netherlands.
Watercolor Artist | Digital Artist | Polymer Clay Artist
Danielle Verstegen was trained to be a teacher, but born to be a creator. Through the years she developed her creative skills, mainly using polymer clay, watercolor paints and her photo camera.
She is self-taught in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and uses these programs to create stunning digital designs and to make her watercolor paintings stand out even more.
Danielle is mostly inspired by nature and fairy tales, which is often shown in her work. Her clay sculptures are mostly trees and mushrooms, that have a whimsical feel and are usually embedded with many little lights. Her drawings, paintings and patterns have a happy and loose vibe.
Being a fan of Alice in Wonderland, especially of the Cheshire Cat, she chose to name her design company in honor of this famous Lewis Caroll character. With a little twist of course, but considering kittens are ‘curiouser’ than grown cats, it seemed a suitable twist.
The Cheshire Kitten showcases Danielle’s work. There is a tiny spot reserved for her sculptures, but the focus is mainly on the commercial artwork. All illustrations, patterns and collections that are included in the portfolio are available for licensing or for sale.
The artwork of The Cheshire Kitten is very versatile, but usually carries a happy or whimsical vibe. We have designs suitable for apparel, but also home decor and nursery decor are part of our portfolio.
